The Fresh Factory is a locally owned and operated fresh produce store and delivery service. They have a passion for high quality fruit and vegetables and source produce from local farmers, with a goal of providing accessible and affordable fruit and veg to all. The group offers both individual items in store and online, as well as “Fresh Boxes” delivered to your door.
The Fresh Factory came to BA as they wanted to take their in-store experience online for customers. This meant both branding work and web design to bring the brand to life, digitally!
The initial challenge was sorting through the products. We had to work with the client to decide how products from the store (where you purchase by the kilo) would translate online. We also needed to come up with a clever design that could showcase the vast offering of produce.
Another issue we had to overcome was the current COVID-19 crisis. Due to the current climate, shoppers have had to change the way they purchase essential items, with many opting to shop online. This meant we had to accelerate the final stages of the build to get the store online as soon as possible. It was a great challenge for the team to get together and work on the design, functionality and store setup simultaneously.
Initially, we had planned to launch the site with just the fresh boxes, as these are great products that are an easy online solution for customers. Instead, we had to pivot and look at how to bring the store’s whole collection online alongside the boxes.
We worked with the client’s in-store POS system – Ideal POS – to connect to Shopify and get the in-store products online. This made it possible to have products sold individually and by the kilo.
On the website, we designed a sticky sidebar navigation that customers could use to search or scroll through to find the product category they were looking for.
Having all fresh produce on the site is great for customers who are either wanting to do their weekly fruit and veg shop or look at the fresh boxes but wanting to purchase other add-ons, like custard apples!
The result was a solid brand and online store that is a standout among fresh produce eCommerce competitors in terms of design and usability.
