Brubecks had outgrown its existing brand and Squarespace website. While the product was high-quality, hearty, and well-loved in local supermarkets, the brand and digital experience no longer reflected the scale or ambition of the business. The goal was clear: elevate the brand, stand out on crowded supermarket shelves, and build a seamless eCommerce experience that made it easy for time-poor customers to buy direct.

A brand that no longer fit

Branding

Our first goal for Brubecks was to create a distinctive, professional, and memorable identity that reflected the quality, heartiness, and homemade nature of Brubecks’ meals.

We identified their key point of difference is that its meals are hearty, filling, and genuinely homemade - not mass-produced commercial kitchen products. The brand needed to feel:

  • High-quality but approachable
  • Rustic and handmade, yet polished
  • Fresh, appetising, and shelf-ready

Green became the hero colour, supported by secondary tones of orange and blue to reinforce a Mediterranean vibe. Typography was bold and blocky with a subtle quirk, grounding the more whimsical elements of the brand.

The illustrations added warmth, personality, and a boutique, handmade feel, while still allowing the brand to stand out on busy supermarket shelves.

Client buy-in was immediate and enthusiastic, with only minimal refinements requested during the process.

The website was rebuilt from scratch on Shopify, migrating away from Squarespace. Treating the project as a fresh build allowed for clearer planning and better long-term scalability.

To meet Brubecks’ unique operational needs, several custom solutions were implemented, including minimum order logic, a postcode checker, click & collect, bundling and detailed custom collection filters.

Brubecks’ high-quality product photography became a central feature of the design, reinforcing freshness and appetite appeal. Paired with large, eye-catching product cards and fun animation and movement that brought personality to the site, we achieved a bold and modern layout that avoided the typical white-space-heavy eCommerce look.

Custom development was a key cornerstone of this project, with custom checkout logic and shipping rules carefully engineered to handle Brubecks’ requirements. This is something that would have been difficult to achieve using apps alone.

Brubecks now has a bright, fresh, and distinctive brand paired with a powerful eCommerce experience. The new identity clearly communicates quality, heartiness, and homemade appeal, while the website makes it easy for customers to buy direct, whether online, click-and-collect, or in-store.
