The tea Australia loves.

The Tea Centre is an iconic Australian brand, growing from humble beginnings in a small Sydney store to become Australia's most trusted tea experts. They came to us with a WordPress/WooCommerce store that was clunky, difficult to use (both for customers and internal staff) and no longer reflected the quality of service they provide. It was time to set sail for Shopify!

The project began with an in-depth UX workshop, bringing together BA’s strategic creative team and The Tea Centre to challenge assumptions and define priorities. With a full migration from WordPress to Shopify, we had the opportunity to completely rethink the store, from backend inventory management through to the front-end experience. A key objective was to better reflect the warmth and guidance of the in-store experience online, while improving product discovery, customer loyalty and operational efficiency.

Through detailed user journey mapping and a full site restructure, we introduced a range of new features designed to make browsing and buying tea feel effortless. This included weight-based purchasing, delivery variants, refined collection filtering, a custom gift finder and a more intuitive navigation system that mirrors the in-store menu.

This UX foundation was brought to life through a refined, minimalist UI that balances elegance with interactivity. Custom product cards with hover-reveal icons help customers quickly understand flavour profiles and characteristics, reflecting the conversations customers would typically have in store. Features like “Brewed in Store” and dynamic collections replicate the ever-changing in-store experience and encourage deeper product exploration.

We also reduced friction across the customer journey by consolidating product variants and streamlining key pages such as the store locator. This made it easier for customers to browse, discover and purchase, while also supporting upsell and bundling opportunities. The result is a Shopify store that feels immersive, intuitive and scalable, recognised as a finalist in the 2025 Australian Web Awards for Retail and Commerce, and Shopify Tech.
